Metropolitan African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church (Birmingham Churches and their Cornerstones)

Organized in 1885, Metropolitan AME Zion Church at Fourth Avenue North and Sixteenth Street is among the oldest African American churches in Birmingham. Lovely Magnolias block part of the view of the 1955 brick Gothic-revival church that currently serves the congregation.
