First Baptist Church of West Princeton (Birmingham Churches and Their Cornerstones)

This study and straightforward Baptist church is located at 910 Lomb Avenue between Princeton Baptist Medical Center and this historic Rickwood Field (America’s oldest baseball field) in Birmingham’s West End. The congregation was organized by the Reverend A. C. Morris in May 1903 (seven years before Rickwood) and the current building erected in 1965 with the cornerstone laid in 1967.

This dating on the stone is a good testimony that whereas at one point cornerstones were actually laid during the construction of the building, this type of cornerstone (perhaps better called a “date stone” was often added after the building was complete.
