Mountain Brook Independent Church

Birmingham Churches and Their Cornerstones 50

Mountain Brook Independent Church sits in at the corner of Euclid Avenue and Montevallo Road in Mountain Brook, Alabama, adjacent to Birmingham’s Crestline neighborhood. The congregation belongs to IFCA International, a group founded in 1930 as the Independent Fundamental Churches of America.

The building’s cornerstone includes the phrase “Christ is the Cornerstone of this Church” and states that the red brick building was erected in 1970. The abbreviation “A.D.” for anno domini (“in the year of [our] Lord”) appears after the date, not before it as is traditionally correct. Perhaps I could keep a track of which churches in this series put A.D. after the year number and which before it.

Read this first post for more on this series on Birmingham churches and their cornerstones.
